Day One

Today I got the bike loaded up on the trailer and hitched up to my Jetta TDI Sportwagen.  Finally hit the road at about 11:00 AM and headed toward Atlanta.  The Jetta turns out to be an excellent little tow vehicle.  The torquey little diesel had absolutey no problem getting the loaded trailer up to speed and was able to easily maintain 75 mph on the interstate.  All while returning 30 miles per gallon!

My hosts for the evening were my friend Rik, his wife, Denise, and Deacon the wonder dog.

I arrived at about 7:00 PM and after a glass of wine and a cigar, we went to dinner at a Topas restaurant where we had some great food, conversation, listened to live music and drank more wine.  Back at the homestead, Rik & I challenged each other to a Wii bowling match and, apparently, a wine drinking competition.  The next morning I was sure that a truck had run me over, but there were no witnesses.  😉

Rik and Denise were wonderful hosts, as they always are, and I got this shot just before I hit the road for Columbus, Ohio.

I can’t believe he STILL has Deacon! I remember that dog from when I was 10 or 11.

Not the same Deacon. I think it’s Deacon II or III.

  3. Denise says:

Meet Deacon III and they keep getting better.

Kristin, Rik said you knew Deacon II. Our Deacon is almost 8 years old (born on Oct 19) and he is a joy…well, not everyone loves him as much as I do, though.

Bob, it was a pleasure having you visit. Next time stay longer with us. I want to get in on the Wii tournament!

I can’t imagine any dog being better than Deacon I. Luck you!
