Woo-hoo!<\/p>\n<p>Well, that\u2019s about all I can say about it. The weather was cooperating with clear skies and temps in the low 60s, but the roads from Duluth to Houghton, MI were unremarkable. We chose Houghton because of its proximity to Copper Harbor, our goal, and knowing that the place would be booked for the Labor Day weekend, we decided to stop short in Houghton and make it to Copper Harbor for lunch the next day.<\/p>\n<p>In Houghton, we stayed in a Ramada Inn, right on the waterway, with a view of downtown and the draw bridge that connects the city.<\/p>\n<p>Houghton, like most of the Keweenaw Peninsula, owes its history to mining, and in particular, mining of copper. Copper was discovered long before white settlers arrived and was further exploited once they did. Copper mining has ceased, as is the case with most other minig operations around Superior, due to cheaper sources in other parts of the world. Still, the Keweenaw Peninsula remains one of the richest deposits of copper in the world.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three states in one day! Woo-hoo!
